Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
