Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.

A senior political figure said the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
